JUNE 27 MUNICIPAL BAND OPENING CONCERTS

The opening concerts planned for June 27 begins with the "The Fairest of the Fair march by John Philip Sousa, followed by a collection of Mancini songs entitled ‘Mancini Sectacular." Songs heard in this group include: "Moon River," "Baby Elephant Walk," "Charade," "Dear Heart," and "Peter Gun."

Special guest performers for the opening concert are the DOLORES SHEARER DANCERS. As the owner and artistic director of the studio, Dolores Shearer has a long background of dedication to community activities as well as offering professional dance training for children in ballet, pointe, lyrical, tap and jazz. The dance studio celebrates more than 40 years of dance helping many students achieve personal development with poise, grace and self-confidence through the art of dance.
Their five routines they will present include: DIXIELAND, by Lauren Gressley;
CAN CAN, by Randi Boelcke, Cara Conrad and Tricia Cudahy ROUTE 66, by Kayla Flanagan, Skylar Hicks, Madison Poplawski, Jennifer Stelter, Lane Vitek, Maylee VonBehren; OLE’ OLE, by Brittany Ellis, Elizabeth Reimers, Allyson Walter and ENTERTAINMENT TRAIN, by Randi Boelcke, Sarah Chancey, Cara Conrad, Tricia Cudahy, Lauren Gressley, Lindsay Peirce.

The concert continues with the popular Leroy Anderson piece "The Penny Whistle Song,"

The band then introduces it’s guest vocal soloist Jeff Cramer. Mr. Cramer is in his ninth year as Director of Vocal Music at Northwood High School in Nappanee, IN.

  Jeff will sing selections from the music "Carousel," which the band is dedicating to the new opening summer season for the St. Joseph Silver Beach Carousel.

Jeff’s ensembles have consistently received superior awards and ratings at festivals both in Indiana and throughout the Midwest. In February, 2010 the NorthWood Choirs made their first appearance at Carnegie Hall in NYC, performing Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna. In addition to teaching, Jeff remains active as a vocal soloist throughout the Michiana area. Past credits include productions at the Round Barn Theatre in Nappanee, IN. Jeff is a graduate of Bethel College (IN) where he received degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Jeff's variety of roles have included Curly in Oklahoma!, Tony in West Side Story, and Prince Charming in Cinderella. Jeff also continues to remain active in church music ministry at the Nappanee Missionary Church. Jeff resides in Mishawaka with his wife, Kristin, and their daughter, Audrey.

The Concert then concludes with "The Burst of Flame March" by Richard W. Bowles.

 

 

Some of the other special performances planned with the Municipal Band 2010 season will be: Vocal soloists: Shawn Edwards, Jessica Lovely, Paul Mow, Carrie VanDenburgh, Abbey Clark, Patrick Ross, Gary Cooper and The Lighthouse chorus. Instrumental features will include: Gary Cooper, Trombone; Carol Selter, Trumpet; William Clark, Trumpet; Dr. Dave Ratijik, Clarinet; Kaethe Durham, Oboe. A former member of the band, Jerry Lackey, formerly of South Bend, will appear guest conducting a new composition and the Citadel Dancers will perform.

 

JUNE 27 ‘BIG BAND’ CONCERT AT 9:00 P.M.

"The beginning of the St. Joseph Municipal Band 2010 season will kick off with a ‘late night’ show performed by the St. Joseph Municipal Big Band at 9:00 p.m.. The program will include a guest vocal solo performance by Jeff Cramer who will sing an old standard "As Time Goes By." and Frank Sinatra favorite "Come Fly With Me." The Big Band concert will include several favorites of that special era concluding with perhaps the most popular song of the Big Band Era, the well known big band Glen Miller favorite, "In the Mood."

The added late night show "Big Band" concert is always featured from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m., after the evening concert on the first Sunday of the season (June 27) and again on the last Sunday of the season (September 5), the evening before the Municipal Bands closing concerts of the season on Labor Day, September 6.
