| Director Dr. Donald Moely announced the July 15 St. Joseph
Municipal Band Concerts will feature Brinden Brown as vocalist and a
special soprano Sax and Trumpet duet will be performed by Christopher
Keech, and William Camp.
The concerts are performed at 3:30 and again at 7:30 p.m., across from
the Whitcomb on the shores of the St. Joseph River and Lake Michigan at
the John E. N. Howard band shell in downtown St. Joseph.
The Concert begins with "Bullets and Bayonets March," by
Sousa. This is followed by the Aaron Copland composition "Quiet
City," which is a duet performed by William Camp on Trumpet and Chris
Keech on Soprano Sax.
WILLIAM CAMP enters his 23rd year as a traveling performer and
guest soloist. Camp has appeared with the Lake Forest Symphony, American
Ballet Theater Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony, Kenosha Symphony,
Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra and the Symphonic Pops Orchestra of
Chicago and now performs with Chicago Classic Brass. He has performed in
Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, and at La Scala, Italy.
CHRISTOPHER KEECH is in his 19th year with the St. Joseph Municipal
Band, has been an active performer in the Southwest Michigan area for the
past 20 years. His musical experiences have included performances with
John Lewis, Jimmy Heath, Ben Vereen, Michael Bolton, The Captain &
Tennille, and The Temptations. Chris presently works in the instrumental
music department of Buchanan Community Schools, and he has been a music
instructor at Southwestern Michigan College for the past 13 years. In his
spare time, he's the music director of the Lake Effect Jazz Big Band, a
18-piece contemporary jazz ensemble based in St. Joe. Chris is also a
member of the Dogwood Chorale, a professional, vocal music group based in
Dowagiac
The band next calls on a Kenneth Alford march again by performing
"On the Quarter Decd March." Variety follows as the band
performs So Nice (Summer Samba), arranged by James D. Ployhar. Next the
band celebrates an upcoming soon to be released sequel to the
"Indiana Jones" movie, by performing "Raiders of the Lost
Ark Medley by John Williams, transcribed for band by J. Bullock. This is
followed by featuring the bassoon section of the band consisting of Paul
Goodman and Darla Crawford, as they perform "Bassoonata" by
David Bennett.
The concert concludes with featuring it’s guest vocalist for the day,
Miss Brinden Brown, who is returning as featured soloist by popular
demand. She will help celebrate the 50 year anniversary the the release of
"West Side Story," by singing the highlights of the Leonard
Bermstein musical. The lyrics for "West Side Story" were written
by Stephen Soundheim.
BRINDEN BROWN, a native of Elkhart, Indiana, is a graduate of
Bethel College and an alumnus of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester,
New York. She has performed with many companies, orchestras, and choral
groups across the country, including the Cleveland Opera, the Cathedral of
St. John the Evangelist early music ensemble, the Elkhart County Symphony,
Southwestern Michigan College, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. She
enjoys performing a variety of vocal styles including opera, jazz, pop,
gospel, musical theatre, oratorio and early music. This will be Miss
Brown’s eighth season as a guest singer with the St. Joseph Municipal
Band.
