Carousel Works of Mansfield, Ohio created the horses as part of the new Silver Beach Carousel planned to be open in the fall of 2008 below the bluff. The 50’ carousel deck will feature 26 horses and 22 unique figures in addition to two chariots, one of which is handicap-accessible.

One horse is painted with "pinto" brown and white coloring and traditional western trappings. These include a brightly striped blanket under the brown saddle detailed to resemble leather tooling. A canteen, fringed leather gun holster, and lariat complete this galloping steed with flying mane.

The second horse is a deep golden palomino with white socks and mane complemented with black, teal and gold Egyptian trappings. The sphinx carvings and large, elaborately detailed sword combine to give this figure an outstanding appearance.

The Egyptian horse has been sponsored but the Western horse is still available. Currently 36 of the 48 figures have been selected for sponsorships along with both chariots. Two figures of local interest, the St. Joseph Bear and the Benton Harbor Tiger, are available along with the remaining horse and animal figures.

After the concerts the horses will be on display with 12 additional finished carousel figures in the Silver Beach Museum through September 30th. The museum is open 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily through Labor Day, and every weekend in September. After closing all museum items will be removed in preparation for construction of the new carousel building as part of the development planned below the bluff on property owned by Silver Beach Memories, LLC, formed by Ed and Marcie Schalon and Lou and the late Warren Gast.
