Sunday, July 6, the St. Joseph Municipal Band returns to its normal every Sunday until Labor Day summer concert series their hour long concerts each 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. The opening march is one of John Philip Sousa’s, entitled, “King Cotton March.” This is followed by an overture style composition “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by John Zdechlik. And a concert march, “Minuteman”, by Robert Pearson. The band then performs some favorite music from Broadway with “Broadway’s Classics”, which includes “June is Busin’ Out All Over”, “Ol’ Man River,” “I, Don Quixote,” and “If I Loved You.” The special entertainment for the concerts will be “4th AVENUE.” which is a mixed vocal quartet comprised of Tim and Lyndsey Borst, and Joe & Karol Krueger. The two couples have been singing together for 5 years. They met at Southwestern Michigan College after auditioning for the college’s show choir. From that first meeting, they formed 4th Avenue, and they became best friends and true loves. They sing anything from a cappella, jazz, barbershop, doo-wop, Christian, and they also do appearances with jazz bands. They were formed in 1998, and from that point have become exceedingly busy. They sing for private business parties, weddings, family reunions, birthdays, various professional meetings, and are involved in many area summer park performances. Member Joe Krueger said “We are proud of where our talents have led and are excited to begin work on our forthcoming CD. We look at each performance as a privilege to touch the lives of our audiences.” In the spring of 2000, they put on a concert at the Lyons Theatre in Dowagiac, MI; and there is talk of another concert spring 2004. For further information, you can contact Joe at (269) 782-1091, or Lyndsey at (269) 684-4869. The band next features perhaps the most famous concert march in Europe, the “Radetsky March,” by Johann Strauss, followed by featuring the entire trombone section of the Municipal Band in “Beguine for Trombones,” by James Christensen. The concert concludes with a Fred Jewell “The Old Circus Band March.” The concerts are each Sunday at 3:30 & 7:30 p.m. and last about one hour. The only other days the double concerts are performed are July 4, and Labor Day, September 1; which concludes the season. There is no admission for the concerts. |
