The St. Joseph Municipal Band continues 2003 summer concert series with its sixth set of double concerts on Sunday, July 27 at the normal 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the John E. N. Howard Band Shell in downtown St. Joseph overlooked Lake Michigan.

Dr. Moely indicated that this week’s concerts will begin with a Karl King march "Invictus." The band then continues with "Overture in B Flat" by Caesar Giavaninni, followed by the march popularized when it was used in the movie "The Bridge on the River Kwai."

The concert then presents its music ensemble entertainment for the day with the Municipal Band Brass quintet. The group is coordinated by William Camp, formerly of Niles who is able to return to perform with the band each year. The brass quintet consists of Bill Camp, Jay Crouch, of Niles; Trumpets; Stacie Detgen, Charlotte, on French Horn, Gary Cooper , of Benton Harbor on Trombone and Jerry Lackey, of South Bend on Tuba. They will perform:

  1. Prelude to the Rakes Progress, by Stravinsky

  2. Peaveey Venir Du Prin, by Le Jeune

  3. Two Ayres for Cornetts & Sagbuts from Courtly Masquing Ayres, by Adison

  4. Tango by Albeniz;

  5. Triumphal March from Aida, by Verdi

The Brass Quintet conclude by performing a special piece with the Municipal Band as the accompaniment. The piece was written by Rick DeJonge and is called Wayside Festival for Brass Quintet and Band.

Next the band features two outstanding vocalists from South Bend, who will perform "Highlights from ‘Mame’" by Jerry Herman, and arranged by John Krance.

The vocalists are Amelia Sinnott and Yar Chuuon. .Amelia Sinnott, graduated this June from Adams High School in South Bend. She was involved in symphonic orchestra, concert choir, show choir, District and State Solo Ensemble festivals, all State Choir and performed all during her high school years in the all city firefly musical productions each summer of her high school years in South Bend. She was chosen as the most outstanding female member of the choir program at Adams high school. Miss Sinnott was the lead in this years spring musical ‘Mame.’ She’ll will continue her music and drama study at the California Institute for Performing Arts in Los Angeles majoring in Musical Theater.

Yar Chuuon, graduated this June from Adams High School in South Bend. He was involved with Symphonic Band, Marching band, Pep Band, Concert choir, Show Choir, All State Choir, performed in all District and State Vocal and instrumental festivals while in high school. Mr. Chuuon was chosen as the most outstanding male member of the choir program at Adams High School. He plans to continue his music study at Valparaiso University.

The two will then join together in performing a rather unique duet entitled "Time to Say Goodbye" (con Te Partiro), by F. Santoni & L. Quarantotto. This popular duet was recorded by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli.

The Municipal Band concludes the program with a concert march "Brighton Beach", by William Latham

The concerts are each Sunday at 3:30 & 7:30 p.m. and last about one hour. The band is in the part of their season with concerts each Sunday until August 31, and then the season concludes with Monday, September 1, labor day concerts which conclude the season. There is no admission for the concerts.
